Fashion Daydreams

My love for fashion, style and design is a love that i have come a long way with and has become obvious to me through  my commitments, decisions and daily productivity (such as this blog). A lot of people share the same passion and some just think they do and dnt realise how they are just sucked in and trapped in illusions of desired lifestyles that are marketing by the varies commercial cultures. I'm not a compulsive shopper and do not believe in fashion escapades such as "shopping sprees". For me shopping is more like quality time during which i may or may not find something to treasure and is less focussed on splurging. This process sometimes tends to be a long one, not long in a sense that i spend hours in a mall till I'm cranky but in a sense that its a journey of love and sometimes lust. I can best describe what i mean by love and lust by the times where Ive found myself in a boutique, mall, or market and unexpectedly come across something special, something marvellous and that  i just cant leave without, the feelings towards that particular item of clothing are intense and impulsive sometimes intense but reluctant. Love for it may be so strong i buy it(when i can afford it).Sometimes i leave it because some kind of doubt came to me while deciding on the purchase, this is when the love is tested, its make or brake, its do or die. Daydreams of the item days after my encounter confirm i am meant to have it in my life. Finding myself regretting  my doubts and imagining how i would wear it and longing for it.. A true love for craftsmanship, detail & authenticity and the relationship one develops with a garment come alive in my  fashion daydreams..........

REAL PEOPLE: Lanvin f/w 2012

OH my Lanvin! Oh how you always have your eish on point after all these years!! Love love creative director Alba Elbazs spin on this fall campaign. We need to see more ordinary people in add campaigns because it does reveal high fashion in a less intimidating light. This campaign is super creative and absolutely fresh! How amazing do these ladies look in the peplum tops and fitted skirts. An 18 year old in red and the 80 year old show that style and grace have no age and that true fashion inspiration and relevance lives in LANVIN.

Iam my hair

The natural hair revolution
Around the world people have locked their hair in rebellion(against colonial systems): Rastas, Rasta-Buddhists, Maori Warriors, Sadhus, Massai all had and still have. Today dreads, plaits,Afro are the modern rebellions that leaves those wit natural hair with the essence of individuality, and an "organic explosion of hair". This movement has liberated some but we still find today those who are victims of media and marketing strategies that don't promote fuzz and coil but instead straightened and shiny hair. Popular culture endorses weaves and extensions and has impacted African women's view on Beauty in a very disturbing way. I noticed this about 2 months ago when I attended my friends graduation ceremony at UKzn where out of the approximately 300 ladies who were graduating I kid u not about 290 had a weave!! This is how African women now consider themselves beautiful, unnatural hair is regarded better than our own natural coils! It's a concern and it is encouraging to see beautiful women rocking their all natural, and their rebellion is admirable.
